Dog Day at the Montpelier PoolCurated by Stonecliff Veterinary Surgical Center

Our itineraries are sponsored by Capitol Plaza Hotel Montpelier, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.

We have a theory that Montpelier is actually run by dogs. Stop at the Farmer's Market, and they practically outnumber humans. Montpelier loves animals, so be sure to bring along Fido on your next visit and enjoy a wide range of pet-friendly places downtown, from restaurants with dog-friendly outdoor seating to a store that sells pets products made right here in the U.S.A.

Where to Eat

Montpelier Vermont has a plethora of fantastic restaurants, many of which have outdoor, dog friendly seating. Here are a few of our favorites:

The Skinny Pancake
Locally-sourced ingredients fill their crepes with something for everyone.  Dog friendly outside patio makes it a perfect spot to sit and enjoy a savory or sweet crepe anytime of day, alongside Fido.

Birchgrove Baking
This little bakery and café tucked around the corner from the State House uses local ingredients and has a dog friendly outdoor area. Raved by many as the BEST buttercream frosting around, their savory and sweet pastries are highly sought after by locals and tourists alike. They also do custom cakes! A perfect diversion from a busy day.

Where to Visit

Hubbard Park
This 185 acre park is a great place to take your dog for off leash (only well behaved) fun! Hike to the Hubbard Park Tower and climb to the top of the 54 foot structure for amazing views of Montpelier and beyond. Many trails to explore and picnic areas with areas for campfires. A fun excursion.

Stonecliff Veterinary Surgical Center

He is well known for his amazing surgical skills and also his down to earth, genuinely friendly attitude. Dr. Kelly has been supporting area veterinarians by providing a place for their clients to have complicated surgeries performed without having to send them to a more expensive specialty hospitals, hours away.

Montpelier Pool
If you find yourself and your pooch in Montpelier in August (August 19th to be precise 5-6:30pm) join the once a year dog swim to raise money for the Central Vermont Humane Society.

Where to Shop

The Quirky Pet
A fun pet store in downtown Montpelier that has an interesting breed of dog as their mascot. Stop in and meet the Bergamasco Sheepdogs that greet shoppers daily. The Bergamasco’s haircoat resembles dreadlocks, three kinds of hair combine to form dense, mats that continue to grow and reach the ground around 5 years of age. The mats protect by insulating from cold and heat as well as from insect and predator bites.

Montpelier Agway
This hometown store has it all and your dog is welcome! They have a dog wash area as well as a great selection of dog and cat food, toys, treats, and training aids. The staff are friendly and very helpful, with lots of advice on their products

Guy's Farm and Yard
This is a great place to stop in with your pet to get supplies and food. The staff goes above and beyond to help you find what you're looking for. So cool to have a farm store in downtown Montpelier. Walk your dog on over and pick up a toy and treat while you're there.
