Discover Elm Street:

A Short Stroll with Big Finds

If you’re hunting for Montpelier’s hidden gems, start with a walk aross the School Street bridge, one of the bridges Montpelier Alive helped illuminate. Be sure to stop along the way and take in the view of the Langdon Street bridge and multiple colorful murals. This crossing is exceptional in the evening when the bridges are lit up.

Arrive on Elm Street

What waits on the other side is a pocket of downtown that’s slightly off the beaten path but buzzing with life. Elm Street is compact, super-walkable, and packed with local flavor, perfect for a quick side quest that turns into an afternoon.

  • Royal Thai Orchid: Comforting curries, fragrant basil, and the kind of warm service that makes you a regular after one visit. Perfect for a cozy lunch or a takeout feast.

  • Jumping Raindrops Sewing: Handmade goods, alterations, and sewing services. Stop in to discover unique stitched items or to get help bringing new life to favorite pieces.

  • Grian Herbs Apothecary: A welcoming herbal shop offering tinctures, teas, salves, and holistic remedies. Whether you’re curious about plant medicine or seeking support from experienced herbalists, this spot is one to explore.

  • Taste of Europe: A treasure trove of imported delights and pantry favorites. Pop in for chocolates, teas, preserves, and those hard-to-find ingredients that instantly upgrade a picnic or dinner at home.

  • Alexi High: A design-forward studio and shop where functional ceramics are inspired by nature. Expect thoughtful pieces and rotating work.

And that’s just the beginning... there is so much to explore on this side of town!

Make it a Mini Adventure

Pause for a photo with a mural backdrop, grab takeout, and wander State Street to the State House lawn for a picnic. Or linger with a coffee and people watch on the State Street Bridge. This is the Montpelier we love: small, surprising, and full of personality.
