Weekly Montpelier Ramble Invites Community to Savor Autumn Evenings Downtown

This October, Montpelier comes alive on Thursday evenings with a new tradition: the Montpelier Downtown Ramble. Beginning at 5pm each week, residents and visitors alike are invited to stroll through downtown, enjoy the crisp fall air, and experience all that our vibrant city center has to offer.

Communities across Vermont and beyond have embraced similar evening strolls as a way to spark connection and support downtown vitality. Burlington and Waterbury have seen great success with their passeggiatas, casual evening walks that encourage neighbors to linger, socialize, and rediscover local businesses. Montpelier’s Downtown Ramble is inspired by that same spirit of shared place, community pride, and simple enjoyment.

Several downtown businesses will stay open a bit later on Thursdays throughout the month, offering a warm invitation to stop in, browse, shop, or grab a bite. Their extended hours help create a lively atmosphere that celebrates community connection and supports our local economy. Montpelier Alive publishes a ‘soundcheck’ every week, listing music at local venues. The Montpelier Ramble is an opportunity to soak in all the sounds and show support for local musicians.

“The Downtown Ramble is a chance to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy Montpelier at its most charming.” says Montpelier Alive’s Executive Director, Katie Trautz. “We need to savor the post-construction City of Bridges and the sense of normalcy we have begun to find. We also want to continue to become a resilient community by building our social fabric and supporting local business.”

Whether you’re meeting friends after work, exploring local shops and eateries, or simply soaking in the evening energy, the Ramble offers a delightful way to support downtown and savor the season. No registration is required, just come as you are, tell your neighbors, and enjoy Montpelier on an autumn evening.

Montpelier Alive encourages everyone to mark their calendars for the Thursdays ahead and take part in this new community tradition.
