Resilience Flood Montpelier community Strong art Commemoration

After the destructive flooding in Plainfield and Barre last week, the Flood the Streets with Art event, re-scheduled for Wednesday, July 17th, has been revised to meet the current needs of our wider community.  Through the mediums of art, writing, and music, as well as a chance to donate to help the 2024 flood victims, the public will have the opportunity to come together to reflect, express their feelings, and support our neighboring communities who are currently suffering the effects of flooding.

The public is invited to register to draw or write messages of support on segments of sidewalk at the event tent at Christ Church (64 State St) from 9 am - 4 pm. Professional artists will create art at locations downtown. There will be music in the afternoon at the Christ Church pocket park, and all proceeds from the performances will benefit local impacted communities. There will be a Brown Bag Concert, sponsored by Hunger Mountain Co-op, at noon, featuring both the Bent Nails House Band and Ras Moshe. Local talent, including Shidaa Projects, will play music throughout the afternoon. From 5 - 7 pm, the community will gather on the lawn at Christ Church to hear from community leaders, followed by a benefit concert, featuring Honeybee Steelband with special guests. To donate online, visit https://montpelieralive.app.neoncrm.com/forms/flood-relief-for-neighbors

The public is encouraged to visit downtown to view the art, shop in local businesses, and make donations to Barre Up and Plainfield Flood Response for immediate flood relief. For a full event schedule and details, visit our website: www.montpelieralive.com/FloodTheStreetsWithArt. See our updated event flyer attached. This event is made possible by a grant from the Vermont Flood Recovery and Response Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation.
