Building Bridges Through the Arts:
The Story of the
Montpelier Performing Arts Hub

When theater professional, educator, and entrepreneur Kianna Bromley first dreamed of opening a venue or educational center, the vision was always there, but the right space wasn’t. “I’d come close to leasing a space many times, complete with business models and financials,” she recalls. “But each time, I walked away knowing the location just wasn’t right.”

That changed in December 2023 when Katie Gustafson introduced her to the historic Gary Library. “I was instantly hooked,” she says. “The location, layout, and potential of this building shaped our vision almost immediately. It gave us a clear path forward.”

A Transformation in Motion

The Gary Library is now in the midst of a major transformation into the Montpelier Performing Arts Hub. But the most exciting part isn’t just the bricks and mortar, it’s the people. “The relationships and community we’ve built around this project are the most rewarding part,” Kianna explains. “We made a conscious choice to open our doors right away, to share our vision while we experimented with operations. The community input, new friendships, and shared joy have been incredible.”

That openness has led to a growing roster of events: jazz concerts, storytelling circles, improv nights, and youth theater productions. The variety is intentional. “As a new venue, it can be scary to try new things,” she says. “Not every event will be a sell-out, but we’re watching the data, staying open to collaboration, and making sure we provide variety. We believe this space can be home to many different groups — and through that connection, we build bridges.”

Programming with Purpose

Balancing professional performances with educational programming is at the heart of the Hub’s mission. By inviting both artists and learners to participate, the Hub fosters an inclusive arts ecosystem that benefits the entire community.

How to Get Involved

The Hub’s success depends on the community — and there’s room for everyone to play a part. “This project is only as strong as our ability to engage the community and empower them to be ambassadors,” she says. “We need donations to bring the transformation to life, students for our classes, artists to engage with programming, and audiences to enjoy the space. Even simply talking about the Hub with friends and neighbors helps.”

The Montpelier Performing Arts Hub is more than a venue, it’s a movement to build something lasting, beautiful, and deeply connected to the heart of Montpelier. And it’s just getting started.
