Introducing the Heart of Vermont Podcast

What makes a place feel like home?

That’s the question behind the new Heart of Vermont Podcast, launched by Montpelier Alive as part of Capital Connection—our welcome program for Washington County.

If you’ve recently moved to the area, you know that finding your footing takes time. Where do you go? Who do you meet? How do you plug in?

This podcast is one way we’re trying to answer those questions.

Each episode features conversations with the people who shape Washington County—neighbors, volunteers, business owners, and community builders. It’s about the real things that make living here meaningful.

And if you’ve been here for years? We think you’ll learn something new, too.

Episode One: Lighting the Way

Our first episode features Viviane Ladd Tomasi, who coordinates Montpelier’s bridge illumination project. What started as a creative lighting initiative took on new meaning after the 2023 floods, when the glow of the Langdon Street bridge became a small but powerful symbol of resilience.

You’ll also hear from Montpelier Alive’s Executive Director, Katie Trautz, on how that moment helped shape the project moving forward.

More to Come

Future episodes will explore everything from local businesses to volunteer opportunities to the everyday rhythms of life across Washington County.

Whether you’re new here or just looking to reconnect, we hope this podcast helps you feel a little more at home.
