Montpelier Alive Launches Free Fall Walking Tours Exploring Bridges, Wildlife, and Public Art
Montpelier Alive is once again hosting a series of walking tours this fall. Entitled “Cityscape and Landscape” the tours will take place on three consecutive Thursdays in October. The goal is to raise awareness about Montpelier’s built environment and the unique place it occupies in the natural world.
The first tour will take place on October 9th and is entitled, Montpelier’s Bridges: Spanning Time and Technology. Led by Bridge Illumination Project Coordinator, Vivian Ladd Tomasi, the tour will introduce participants to Montpelier Alive’s new digital walking tour. Everyone is encouraged to follow along on their smart phone to learn about the history of Montpelier’s historic downtown bridges and the project that led to their illumination.
The second tour on October 16th, led by the North Branch Nature Center’s Teacher-Naturalist, Ana Maria Arroyo, and is entitled Montpelier’s Wildside: Tracking Life along the River. Participants will be invited to hunt for tracks and signs of wildlife movement along Montpelier's rivers - from muddy pawprints to beaver chews and bird roosts.
The final tour on October 23rd, is entitled Montpelier’s Murals: New Public Art Projects, and is led by Rob Hitzig, Montpelier Artist and member of the Public Arts Commission. The tour will focus on some of the most visible public murals downtown and the work of the Public Arts Commission.
Montpelier Alive’s walking tours are free and open to the public. Each tour will meet at 5:30 pm in the empty lot between Shaw’s and the Drawing Board, last approximately one hour, and will cover no more than one mile in distance.

The tours are presented by Montpelier Alive in collaboration with the Montpelier Public Arts Commission and the North Branch Nature Center and made possible in part by a grant from AARP with funding support provided by Toyota Motor North America.
