FREE! Farmers Night Performance with Judevine: The Poetry of a Place & Its People
7:00pm-8:30pm FREE! Farmers Night Performance with Judevine: The Poetry of a Place & Its PeopleFarmers Night will conclude the 2026 performing artists series with Judevine: The Poetry of a Place & Its People — Nadine Budbill and the “David Budbill Braintrust” Presented by Vermont Humanities. Join David Budbill’s daughter and literary executor Nadine Budbill—along with actors Abby Paige and Mark S. Roberts—for a dramatic reading and discussion of the poetry that became David Budbill’s Judevine. The Farmers Night Concert Series is a longstanding State House tradition which goes back over 100 years to a time when lawmakers entertained themselves in the House Chamber mid-week while away from home. Artists from around the state, in genres ranging from classical music to bluegrass to spoken word, perform in the well of the House Chamber each Wednesday night at 7:30 during the legislative session. Doors open at 7:00 pm. All concerts are FREE and open to the public.

HEART AND EYE - World Photography by Elliot Burg - Opens at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery
4:30pm-7:00pm HEART AND EYE - World Photography by Elliot Burg - Opens at the Vermont Supreme Court GalleryThis well-deserved retrospective Heart and Eye - World Photography by Elliot Burg is a journey into an artist’s life through captured moments. Very few of us have had an opportunity to explore parts of the globe during specific times of political unrest, Carnival, floods or to witness poignant athletic achievements. Elliot Burg’s candid compositions have been created over the last 10 years and they take us to memorable places through the lens of portraiture. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to experience these arresting images—some exotic, and others poignant— yet all are revealing and intimate. The Opening Reception and Montpelier Art Walk is Friday, April 3 from 4:30 to 7:00 pm at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery with Artist Remarks at 6:00 p.m. All artist receptions at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery are free and open to the public. Students founded the business and pride themselves in offering handcrafted, high-quality wood products. They prefer to use locally-sourced and recycled materials whenever possible. The product range includes Adirondack chairs, cutting boards, planters, and benches. A portion of organization’s profits are donated to local central Vermont charities, which makes this an especially feel-good venture. After Art Walk, Montpelier Made’s work will be on display at the gallery throughout the month of April. Guidebooks will be available in the gallery, so be sure to stop by and get yours! We look forward to seeing you!

Tom’s exhibit, “Outside Lies the Magic”, features national award-winning transparent watercolors capturing the quickly disappearing world around us, including remnants of Vermont's working landscape that once held factories, granaries, mills and mines. Tom will be on-site to discuss the technique and inspiration behind his work. First drawn and then rendered in watercolor, Tom’s paintings use the whiteness of the paper to "magnify the elements of construction and deconstruction and to focus on telling details". He is "especially drawn to relics of everyday life that are hiding in plain sight, be it junked vehicles, old stone walls, abandoned buildings, bridges and structures, but also life cycles of bugs, flowers and other phenomena in the process of transition". In addition to his exhibit at VNRC, Tom's works are on display in the permanent collection of the Vermont Statehouse and in private collections across the state and beyond. Doors will be open to the public between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Light refreshments, including homemade baked goods, will be served while supplies last.

Montpelier Chamber Orchestra; Sentiments of Spring
7:00pm-9:00pm Montpelier Chamber Orchestra; Sentiments of SpringIn the beautiful Chapel at College Hall, on April 11 and 12, Montpelier Chamber Orchestra will present musical sentiments of spring. We invite in hope, light, blossom, and beauty to unite us through the season of mud. This spring program aims to inspire and expand our feelings of anticipation and yearning so characteristic of this time of year. Tchaikovsky’s well known, Serenade for Strings, ventures from classical elegance to Russian folk melodies. It presents a danceable waltz, light and singable, balanced by a sad, yet painfully beautiful elegy. Like springtime itself it embraces dramatic contrasts between light and dark, pensive depth and joyful dance. Flautist Laurel Mauer, one of Central Vermont’s musical treasures of worldwide renown, plays Dana Paul Perna’s, Songe de Voix Perdues (dream of the forgotten voices), a contemporary expression for flute and strings. The enticement and delayed resolution of the changing seasons are encompassed in Emilie Mayer’s symphony No. 1 in cm. Mayer, oft referred to as the “female Beethoven of the 19th century.” Here unresolved chords are extended, and then give way to resolution. Come celebrate spring along with MCO

These early spring roads can be challenging (could they possibly be as challenging as 2025, though??!!), but the views, exploration, and camaraderie are definitely worth it. For those who are just getting their bike legs under them, there is a shorter 20-mile loop that will still give you plenty of dirt, ponds, streams, mud, fun, and cow sightings, in addition to the longer 40 and 60+/- mile XL options.

Donations ARE appreciated and help us to provide more fun and educational workshops like these (Gotta pay to rent the space). If you haven’t signed up, you can sign up with the instructor [email protected]. If you need more information, please contact me through the [email protected].
