Amphibian Road Crossing Program – Ecology & Training Night (Virtual)

6:30pm-8:00pm Amphibian Road Crossing Program – Ecology & Training Night (Virtual)

Join North Branch Nature Center scientists to learn about our Amphibian Road Crossing program, and find out how you can help Vermont’s frogs and salamanders safely cross the road during their annual spring movements. Each spring, amphibians migrate by the millions from upland forests to wetland breeding grounds, often crossing roadways at their peril. NBNC’s ARC program trains volunteers to survey migration sites to help amphibians across the road while collecting valuable data that informs local conservation and transportation planning efforts. Over the last eight years, NBNC volunteers conducted over 1,400 surveys and documented 22,000 salamanders at over 200 crossing sites across Vermont. Did you know that Spotted Salamanders live underground in mouse tunnels? Did you know that Four-toed Salamanders guard their eggs? Did you know that Red Efts spend years traveling across the forest floor in search of the perfect breeding habitat? Tonight will also feature a dive into the amazing ecology and life history of these

2:00pm-4:00pm Swim To Us: A Book Launch for Mary Walling Blackburn's Cream Psychosis

Join us for a discussion with Mary Walling Blackburn and Kaye Cain-Nielsen about the flow of activism and death; the ox-bowing of our best and worst intentions; and whether one can drown-proof in your Data Lake...? As a point of departure, Walling Blackburn will read from “Swim to Us,” an essay included in her new book Cream Psychosis. This text spends time tracing various tributaries of power in the USA, looking at how American and UnAmerican punishment is visualized—from Moomintroll/Tom of Finland hybrids to Far Right GIFs. The essay also IDs some moments where plant allies are hijacked by an array of white supremacists, and does all this while dodging corporate ancestors and COVID ghosts. BIOS Kaye Cain-Nielsen, editor of Cream Psychosis, has purified herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka (see: Purple Rain, 1984). Artist and writer Mary Walling Blackburn, co-author of Questiones Perversas (with Dr. Beatriz E. Balanta) and author of Cream Psychosis (E-flux/Sternberg Press March 2026).

Let's Talk About Death Cafe

Saturday Mar 14th 12:00 pm to 1:30 am
@ Kellogg-Hubbard Library

The Let's Talk About Death Cafe is a monthly community gathering to talk about death. Many people do not like to talk about death. At the Cafe, we encourage people to voice their hopes, fears, experiences, questions, and needs in preparing for their death and/or that of a loved one. There is no set agenda. So many people share that when they have a plan in place and have shared their wishes with others - they feel so much lighter and are able to enjoy life to its fullest. Tea and baked goods will be served.
Looking forward.
