Naturalist Journeys – Coming Back Home: Turning Towards Uncertainty, Wonder, and Connection with Amy Butler

Thursday Feb 1st 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
@ North Branch Nature Center

Coming Back Home: Turning Towards Uncertainty, Wonder and Connection FREE | IN-PERSON at NBNC Part of the Naturalist Journeys 2024 Winter Presentation Series Tickets Required – Register at https://northbranchnaturecenter.org/event/coming-home-amy-butler/ Every day we have opportunities to create experiences that help us connect with the natural world. From the bus stop to the mountaintops, nature invites us to wonder about patterns and seasonal rhythms that are constantly unfolding around us. These simple moments out of doors can cultivate stories of curiosity and awe that help us to rediscover our deep love for the world. In a time of compounded stress and anxiety about our current climate crisis, nature is our guide to restoring a healthy and balanced dynamic between ourselves, one another and the earth. Amy will share nourishing practices that help turn us towards regenerating connection in our communities. About Naturalist Journeys 2024: This year’s series focuses on climate change — but not in the ways you might expect. From beavers to sheep, forestry to fires, and music to mental health, we’ll explore unconventional approaches to safeguarding our planet, our landscapes, and ourselves in this climate crisis. The series runs January through March, with a mix of virtual and in-person presentations.

VNRC Presents "Plant Portraiture in Watercolor", an exhibit by Susan Bull Riley

Friday Feb 2nd 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm
@ 11

Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) is proud to present "Plant Portraiture in Watercolor", a series of paintings by Susan Bull Riley that will be on display through April at our office on Baldwin Street. In conjunction with Montpelier Art Walk, VNRC will be hosting an opening reception for the exhibit on the evening of Friday, February 2nd. Our office will be open to visitors from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, and Susan will be on-site to talk about her methods and inspiration. Light refreshments, including homemade baked goods and hot cocoa, will be served while supplies last. Susan was attracted to the world of botanical watercolors by the meditative process of setting a plant in front of her and painting it as faithfully as possible. As she writes,"it's a slow art form that marries precise drawing, beautiful composition, and a willingness to stay seated for what can be an unreasonably long time, racing to capture the leaf or bloom before wilt sets in." Susan's work can be seen in galleries around the state, and also online at her website, https://www.susanbullriley.com/. Please contact Alex Connizzo, Special Projects Coordinator, at (802) 223-2328 x126 or [email protected] with any questions or comments. Hope to see you on Friday night!
